Quick Bites 8: Birdhouse Fried Chicken in Uptown Bonifacio Mall

Birdhouse, a food purveyor at the Food Hall of Uptown Bonifacio mall, recently celebrated their first anniversary by having the “Lord of the Wings” summon foodies, influencers, and celebrities. We are thankful that we got invited because we got to try exciting chicken flavors.

It was a truly filling dinner as each of us were served a choice of drink and side, and, a plate with 6 pcs. jumbo wings.

Six (6) Fun Flavored Wings of Birdhouse

Beautifully arranged by Mary Love of http://www.whatmaryloves.com, the #1 Zomato blogger.

According to the owner, they regarded their wings as jumbo wings as it’s 20% bigger than their wings before and also compared to the wings offered by others. The menu states that you can only choose up to two flavors if you choose the dozen. Thus, I think they only served this kind for us to get to try all six new flavors.

A 6 piece platter is only PHP 199 (or USD 3.9). Meanwhile, for a dozen, it’s only PHP 395 (or 7.74 USD).

ROASTED GARLIC PARMESAN

Me-An both loves garlic and cheese so it was easy for to fall in love with this flavor. Roasted garlic really adds a savory boost to the nutty cheesy taste of parmesan. The combination of the two produced a chicken wing packed with full flavor.

SMOKEHOUSE BBQ

Out of the six flavors, I like this the most because, honestly, I love my wings to be slathered in BBQ sauce.

What makes this different from the usual wings that I eat is that it has a slow-smoked flavor that adds depth. And although the smoky flavor is there, it’s not too heavy so the subtle sweetness makes the wings all the more enjoyable to eat.

CHEESE AND CARAMEL POPCORN
Cheese & Caramel Popcorn

The one that I got to try has a sweet caramel glazing with popcorn bits stuck to it. Only a dash of cheese powder

BACON MAC & CHEESE
Bacon Mac N Cheese

Those who love Mac & Cheese as their comfort food will love this. A sharp mac & cheese jazzed up with sexy bacon bits coated the chicken wings.

PEPPER CREAM

Despite being generously coated in ground black pepper, the pepper taste is actually tolerable. The cream may have done its wonders in toning it. I can recommend this as well.

K-BOMB

Finally, I was expecting this to be exploding in spiciness but I didn’t get it here.

I think they used gochujang, Korea’s fermented spicy condiment. However, I guess the use of mayonnaise tempered it down. Even though it’s not according to my preference, most diners will like this. The heat is tolerable so one can still concentrate on enjoying the wings. Also, as Me-An had said, “It’s perfect for K-drama or K-pop lovers.”

Love Birdhouse Fried Chicken

Birdhouse

It was our first time eating in Birdhouse so I am basing my review on the what we got to try.

So far, no matter what flavor we go for, we like that their fried chicken is heavily coated with batter. This makes the flavor cut through the meat and disregards the need for a dip.

The 6 piece jumbo wing platter itself is already filling for one person. Well, we just noticed though there are some chicken thigh parts included in the platter served to us. Despite that, six pieces of jumbo wings are adequate to fill a hungry tummy. If that is still not enough, one can order a  side priced at PHP 50 (or USD 1). We recommend their elote corn or their mac and cheese.

Don’t forget to pair your meal with their peach iced tea, PHP 60 (or USD 1.17). Its fruity flavor can complement the rich tasting flavors of the chicken.

With all that is written, we are inviting you to try out Birdhouse as well especially those of you who just work above the Uptown Bonifacio mall. Let us also know what you think of it in the comment section below.
