We had guests who flew in from Masbate province. One of them loves K-Pop and would like to eat at a Korean restaurant here in the metro because of the lack of such in their hometown. We, of course, accommodated their request and opted to let them try a Korean BBQ as it’s a unique dining experience where cooking and eating take centerstage. This led us to Soban K-Town Grill which has positive reviews.
This blog post is shorter than usual since during our visit we ended up being too hungry to focus also on taking proper food shots as well as form an accurate opinion about it. Note that meat becomes tastier when one is hungry. Thus, we’ll definitely return to do a proper review of their food.
Soban K-Town Anniversary Treat
The primary reason why we were so hungry when we visited Soban K-Town Grill is that there were long lines. Lines that were longer than usual.
We didn’t have any inkling that it was their 1st year anniversary and they had an ongoig treat for their customers. Their offer is that when one orders a premium BBQ Combo set, one can purchase a 180 grams of original Samgyupsal for ONLY PHP 1.
Certainly, we ended up ordering their PREMIUM BBQ SET, PHP 2, 120 (or USD 42.41). It comes with a 180g premium marinated beef, 180g of pork belly (with choice of any 2 flavors: original, fruity, chili bean, soy garlic, wine, doenjang), 180g boneless fried chicken, 2 japchae and a maximum of 4 kimchi fried rice, salad, soup, and egg roll appetizer.
We just added a 90 GRAM CHICKEN FILLET SET, PHP 310 (or USD 6.2) for the child we were with as she’s a great chicken lover.
Ban Chan Korean Dishes
The meats were limited but, with the unlimited side dishes that were offered with the combo set, it’s more than enough.
Below are the side dishes we got to eat on our visit:
EGG ROLL gyeran-mari (계란말이)
CUCUMBER PICKLES oijangjji (오이장아찌)
BRAISED SOYBEANS kongjorim (콩조림)
SEASONED SOYBEAN SPROUTS kongnamul muchim (콩나물무침)
The side dishes were tailor fitted to the Filipino palate as the heat of the spicy ones are tolerable. I personally liked their kimchi as it has a balanced taste of sourness and spiciness. Meanwhile, Me-An liked the seasoned soybean sprouts because of the scallions.
The Soban Experience
The meat offered were of decent quality cuts and the marinated ones were well-marinated. For the samgyupsal that came with our premium bbq set, we opted for the fruity and soy garlic ones. The fruity flavored one gave a sweet taste reminiscent of the Philippines’ tocino. On the other hand, the garlicky taste in the soy garlic flavored on made the meat more appetizing which will make you reach for more meat.
We availed the P1 samgyupsal whereby we had the original non-marinated one.
It was the perfect meat to jazz up with the ssam jang sauce and to wrap with the lettuce. Putting in kimchi fried rice made eating it more filling.
I can’t help eating it in ssam style.
Overall, Soban K-Town Grill not only made our guests happy but it satisfied us too. Their price is reasonable for the quality and size of meat they serve. Plus, their servers aren’t only friendly but they’re also attentive too. They’ll approach you right away and ask you if you want side dish refills. All in all we look forward to returning to try it again to make a proper review and eat again as well their marinated meats.
