When one hears Sugar Factory, the first thing that may come to one’s mind is that it’s either of the following:
- a factory for sugar (literal sense);
- a candy store;
- or a dessert place.
The answer is the latter two, but it also includes selections that are more than sweets. Indeed, the concocted sweet drinks we blogged last year for our sweet celebration aren’t the only items one can enjoy there.
We recently were blessed to receive an invite from Zomato foodie meet up. That means we get to try various dishes in one seating since we eat with a group. What we were able to try are the following:
PANCAKE AND WAFFLES
RED VELVET PANCAKES, PHP 320 (or USD 6.36)
These are three fluffy pancakes topped with white chocolate chunks, orange zest, confectioners sugar, and whipped cream. It is served with maple syrup on the side. I prefer this over the other pancake for the sole reason that this one has a lot of white chocolate chunks on top which goes very well with the pancake. I didn’t taste the red velvet as much, but this still is a yummy treat to start the day or as an afternoon snack.
GIGANTIC BUTTERMILK BANANA WALNUT PANCAKE, PHP 340 (or USD 6.76)
It’s one huge pancake topped with banana slices, toasted walnuts, cinnamon-sugar, and whipped cream. It’s served also with maple syrup on the side. It’s not the fluffiest pancake I’ve tried, but the package as a whole is tasty especially when eaten with the bananas and walnut.
BRUSCHETTA, PHP 280 (or USD 5.57)
Baguette slices are topped with fresh diced tomatoes, onions, basil, extra virgin olive oil, and parmesan shavings. I have low initial impressions from it because it wasn’t as crisp as it should be when I was about to try it out. I’m happy to share with you guys though that it tastes way better than it looks. The added salad in the middle adds the greens that some may be looking for.
SUGAR FACTORY PARTY NACHOS, PHP 440 (or USD 8.75)
My first impression of it was that it’s really designed for a large group of people mainly due to how big it is. There were four of us in a group and we were only able to finish half of it. When it comes to toppings, they went with the spiced ground beef, melted cheddar cheese, Jalapeños, black olives added some Sour cream and their very own tropical salsa. What we liked about these nachos are that the chips themselves remained crispy all throughout. Finally, their tropical salsa added the extra oomph it needs.
SOUPS AND SALADS
SIGNATURE SUGAR FACTORY CHEF’S SALAD, PHP 495 (or USD 9.84)
It’s not your ordinary mixed salad greens as it has arugula, Jamon Serrano, shaved parmesan, tomatoes, cucumber, poached egg, and candied walnuts with raspberry vinaigrette.
I like their use of poached egg as it enhanced the salad’s texture. On the other hand, I find the Raspberry Balsamic a bit lacking in taste and flavor as it lacks sourness.
GRILLED CHEESE AND SPAGHETTI SANDWICH, PHP 385 (or USD 7.65)
Spaghetti bolognese is sandwiched between cheddar cheese and mozzarella cheese in pressed garlic bread. It is served with plain fries on the side.
Honestly, I find this one a bit odd, redundant, and a bit disturbing. It’s spaghetti inside a grilled cheese sandwich which is carbs on carbs. Although I also have to say that we shouldn’t judge a book by its cover as it tastes really good. I like the tomato sauce used in the spaghetti and the meatballs is very tasty. Add in the fact that it has grilled cheese inside it makes it a winner in my boo
THE SIGNATURE SUGAR FACTORY BURGER, PHP 445 (or USD 8.85)
Angus beef burger, shredded lettuce, tomatoes, crispy onions, and choice of either cheddar, Swiss, or Bleu cheese on a potato bun. It’s served with ketchup and mayonnaise on the side. This isn’t their monster burger yet one will still find it a mouthful.
ORANGE CHICKEN AND SF FRIED RICE, PHP 565 (or USD 11.23)
It’s orange ginger crispy chicken fillet served with Sugar Factory Style fried rice. Me-An is hoping that the chicken is further cut down to bite-sized pieces as how it is usually served in the U.S. Plus, a hint of spiciness will make it more satisfying.
(on the left) An insane milkshake, GIGGLES SNICKERS MILKSHAKE, PHP 795 (or USD 15.81) is blended cookies and cream ice cream and peanut butter. It’s topped with whipped cream, a whole Snickers bar, a halved waffle, and Blow Pop chocolate. The drink is placed in a mug dressed in sprinkles and Snicker bites. What is great about this milkshake is that the base is thick so the sweet props don’t easily sink. The mug dressing also doesn’t turn into a dripping mess. In fact, from the moment it was served until we were finished eating, the snickers and sprinkles were firmly stuck in place.

(on the right) An old-fashioned milkshake, MAKE A WISH, PHP 325 (or USD 6.46) is vanilla ice cream blended with vanilla cake pieces. sprinkles, and cupcake syrup. It is topped with whipped cream, sprinkles, vanilla cake slices, and a birthday candle. After Me-An tried it, she ended up making a wish of having more of that milkshake. Who wouldn’t? It’s a slurpable treat for anyone who wants to take the vanilla shake to the next level.
Note: These are all available with or without alcohol.
GERMAN CHOCOLATE CAKE, PHP 320 (or USD 6.36)/ without alcohol PHP 200 (or USD 3.98)
We don’t know how a classic German chocolate cake tastes so we can’t tell if it’s accurate. What we could tell is that it tasted like coffee. Meanwhile, the coconut pecan frosting on the rim adds decadence to the drink.
ENERGY BEAR, PHP 870 (or USD 17.30)/ without alcohol PHP 490 (or USD 9.74)
It’s an energizing blend of watermelon vodka, other spirits, and tropical fruits. The gummi bears and Red Bull Energy drink makes it a fun and energizing drink. Well, of course, the smoky effect can’t be disregarded.
Drinking such is like drinking a tropical punch carbonated drink. It’s quite enjoyable especially when shared with family and/or friends.
Sugar Factory Philippines is certainly geared to the upper class with its prices. And when you’re used to American food, like Me-An, you won’t find the food special. However, their sweet offerings especially the milkshakes and cool cocktails/mocktails are definitely worth the visit. You may drink or try a similar kind elsewhere in Metro Manila but the quality, the service, and ambiance surely aren’t at par with Sugar Factory Philippines. Thus, it is an ideal place for celebrations or making your loved ones feel special whether one is a child or a kid at heart.
